Join LabLaunch for some training!

On Wednesday, January 31, LabLaunch Monrovia and the Science Exchange will host a Launch & Training event aimed at helping startups learn more about incubators and contract research organizations. LabLaunch Monrovia, Inc. is a non-profit committed to establishing a more dynamic biotech startup environment in Los Angeles, providing support to entrepreneurs, growing start-ups, incubators, and more to help them accomplish their missions.                                                For more information and to RSVP, please visit their website.

Community Meeting Updates!

The City finalized plans with AvalonBay regarding a planned community meeting to discuss their proposed mixed-use housing project located at 825 South Myrtle Avenue.  This meeting will be on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., at the Library Community Room.  This will give the public an opportunity to discuss the housing project, which includes 154 units, 2,900 square feet of retail space, and a 286-space parking structure.

2018 Reading Challenge!

Each person is challenged to read 10 hours (or 600 minutes) in the month of January for our Winter Reading Challenge. Over 100 Libraries are participating nationwide and the national program’s combined goal is 50,000 books or 1,000,000 minutes! If the national goal is reached, Mark Cuban will donate $25,000 to First Book (an organization that provides new books, learning materials and other educational resources for children in low-income households). What a great way to do some good and get your read on! Monrovia Public Library’s goal is to read a combined 120,000 minutes in January. We know you can do it Monrovia! Our Region Needs YOUR help to Conserve Water!

Our region is still facing severe water shortages!  Please watch and share Monrovia’s water conservation video to help spread the word about what’s happening in our region, and how it will be impacting us all in the coming months and years.  You can watch the full video online on the Monrovia Conserves webpage, where you will also find additional information on how you can make a difference by conserving water and limiting your outdoor water use. Please remember to water early in the morning or late at night to minimize water loss, and only water once every four days.

Volunteer to Help the 2018 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count
The 2018 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is around the corner, and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority is looking for volunteers to help conduct the count from January 23 to 25, 2018. Last year over 8,000 people volunteered. Help beat the record and sign up here.
