Monrovia STILL Conserves

Despite Governor Brown’s declaration that the drought is over in California, here in Monrovia and in the surrounding region, we are still experiencing severe drought conditions that require immediate action to help ensure a continued water supply to meet our health and safety needs.

To help summarize the conditions that got us into this dire situation, City staff worked with Ready Artwork, a Monrovia-based design firm, to develop a new public outreach and educational video.  Please watch and share this video widely to help spread the word about what’s happening in our region!  You can watch the full video online at, where you will also find additional information on how you can make a difference by conserving water and limiting your outdoor water use.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Party 8/21

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun, and everyone in Monrovia is invited to come to join us at the Library to watch the solar eclipse!  The special event will take place on August 21, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  The Library will have special glasses for viewing the eclipse, which will occur at 9:48 a.m., along with snacks and craft activities for kids!
As you may know, a solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between the earth and the sun so that it blocks our view of the light from the sun.  This causes the earth to get dark at that time because we’re in the shadow of the moon!  Anyone located within the path that the moon’s shadow traces on Earth (aka, the Path of Totality) will see one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights – a total solar eclipse!  According to NASA, the Path of Totality will stretch from Lincoln Beach (Oregon) to Charleston (South Carolina).
For us here in Monrovia, we are outside of the Path of Total…

Help Us Find More Historic Districts in Monrovia!

The City of Monrovia invites YOU to a public meeting to discuss the latest developments in the preservation of Monrovia’s history! In collaboration with ASM Affiliates, a historic resources consulting firm in Pasadena, the City is in the process of preparing a citywide historic context that will serve as a tool for the evaluation and designation of potential historic districts.
What is a context statement you may ask?  A robust historic context is the foundation for identifying, evaluating, and handling historic properties and will help us make future land use decisions. They identify important architectural themes in history and then show how those themes relate to our existing historic properties. At this informational meeting, ASM and the City will provide a progress report on the project and present initial research findings. But, most importantly, you are invited to participate in a discussion about the project’s goals, as well as contribute your information about places and themes…
