35th Annual Historic Homes Tour

Each year on the first Sunday in May, MOHPG sponsors a tour of homes in Monrovia.  Five to seven homes, representing the wide variety of vintage structures which helps make Monrovia a desirable place to live, are opened to the public.  Over 200 volunteers, many who do not belong to the organization, work many hours to make the tour a success, This is MOHPG’s primary fundraiser of the year.
Visitors from outside the immediate area are delighted to discover this “gem” of a city of restored and well-maintained vintage homes.  A typical year will find 500-700 “lookie-loos” spending up to six hours (the homes are open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.) exploring the homes and delving into each house’s unique history.

Look for information about the event on the home page of this website beginning sometime in early March of each year. Tickets will be available for purchaseonline, usually by the end of March.

Visit Monrovia's Flying Field on April 30

Did you know that from 1928 to 1953, Monrovia had its very own airport!  The facility was located parallel to Shamrock Avenue just south of Huntington Drive.  At the airport, pilots practiced their craft, students learned to fly, and passengers went for rides – along with the occasional movie being filmed!
Now, history lovers and flying enthusiasts can relive those aviation years with a special event being hosted by the Monrovia Historical Museum and the Monrovia Historical Society!  Titled, “Monrovia’s Flying Field,” the event will take place on Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Monrovia Historical Museum (742 East Lemon Avenue, Monrovia, CA).  Tickets for the public are $5 at the door, and refreshments will be served.
The event will feature chats with and stories from experts in the history of the Flying Field.  There will also be photographs of historic planes, and videos of the Flying Field in action.  In addition there will be photos of the McDonald Broth…
