MAP's 10th Anniversary Party

Some History: The Monrovia Area Partnership program was initiated in 2006. This year marks our 10th Anniversary of City staff partnering with our residents, businesses and local service organizations to build Community by decreasing crime, blight, and resident apathy by encouraging civic engagement. The “Kick-Off” of the MAP program was focused in one of our neighborhoods – MAP Area #1 where (at the time) there was a significant increase in crime, blight and resident apathy.  In an effort to assess resident needs and gain trust, block parties were held in this neighborhood.  The block parties were affectionately titled “Hot Dogs, Hot Links and Hot Topics”. They allowed for residents to safely and comfortably meet with and get to know City staff and to interact with their neighbors again.   Feedback from those block parties helped to form the MAP program into the citywide program and philosophy that we have today of Partnering Together for a Better Monrovia.

What better way to celebrate MAP’s 10th Anniversary than to go back to where it all began – A block party in MAP Area #1.

MAP will be having a block party at Julian Fisher Park on Saturday, July 9, the same night we have a scheduled movie night in our Summer Night Movie Series. This block party will be a celebration for all of our departments, partners, MAP Leaders, family, friends and residents of the city. The Celebration will include the following;
• Free (Beef) Hot Dogs, (Pork) Hot Links
• Free Popcorn
• City booths available to advertise upcoming programming
• Community Partners who support MAP
• Activities for kids and families
• Movie Night (Hotel Transylvania 2)

MAP PROGRAM WINS THREE AWARDS AT THE NEIGHBORHOODS, USA (NUSA) CONFERENCE!

This past week, Monrovia was well represented at the 2016 Neighborhoods USA (NUSA) annual conference, where elements of the City’s overall Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) program were considered for nationwide awards, including our Care for your Neighbor program, our MAP Youth Leadership Academy, and our MAP Neighborhood Newsletter. Even when facing stiff competition from programs that stretched across the nation, the MAP program shined as we won the following awards: 1st Place – MAP Neighborhood Newsletter (Newsletter Competition)2nd Place – Care for your Neighbor Program (Physical Revitalization / Beautification) 2nd Place – MAP Youth Leadership Academy (Social Revitalization / Neighborliness)
 As the photos attached and below illustrate, our team represented Monrovia so very well, and the awards that were won demonstrate how truly exceptional the MAP program is! None of this would be possible if not for the participation of all of you in our programs, thank YOU for always supporting and being a part of MAP!
 Part of what we had to do was present our programs and let them know all of what we do. In our presentations, we included videos on our programs, so the judges could hear from some of you. Click the link to see our MAP YouTube page, which includes videos on our MAP Youth Leadership Academy and our MAP Care for Your Neighbor Program!

NUSA is a national non-profit organization committed to building and strengthening neighborhood organizations.  Created in 1975 to share information and experiences used to build stronger communities, NUSA continues to encourage networking and information-sharing to facilitate the development of partnerships among neighborhood organizations, government, and the private sector for the ultimate goal of strengthening every neighborhood.
