7th Annual MAP Neighborhood Conference

As you know, our 7th Annual MAP Neighborhood Conference is coming up on April 23, 2016! We have exciting workshops, a phenomenal key note, and a wonderful Community Health and Sustainability Fair to look forward to. We have a few surprises coming for that day, but a few we shared this past Saturday at the MAP-Ed Quarterly was that we have MAP Leaders leading workshops! Joannie Yuille and Sandy Burud will be leading one and so will Genia Mills, along with her daughters – who are Youth Leaders.

Something different we are doing this year, is publicly acknowledging volunteers for all the hard work that they do in the City trying to make their corner of the world better! Do you know anyone like this? Nominate them for Neighbor of the Year! Follow the link for more information and to use the nomination form.
In addition to Neighbor of the Year, we have a special award, just for our Neighborhood Leaders –…

Reminder: MAP-Ed Quarterly Meeting THIS SATURDAY!

REMINDER!! Our MAP-Ed Quarterly Meeting on February 6, 2016 | 11 am to 1pm: Join us as we get ready to Map Your Neighborhood (MYN)! In partnership with CERT, MYN provides a step-by-step process that groups of neighbors can work through together to prepare their neighborhood for disasters. It takes just one person to begin this process by personally inviting the neighborhood to his or her home for a 90-minute preparedness meeting. MYN is designed to improve readiness at the neighborhood level. The program acknowledges that disasters are events that create many emergencies at the same time. Professional responders, including police, firefighters, paramedics, and utility personnel, are typically overwhelmed and must prioritize their responses. During the hours or days that may pass before they can respond, residents must rely on themselves and their neighbors for assistance.

Homeless Count 2016

Last Tuesday, January 26, 2016, over twenty volunteers participated in Monrovia’s 2016 Homeless Count.  The data gathered during the Homeless Count is essential to shed light on the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in the Los Angeles area. Thank you to our MAP Leaders for participating and assisting to gather this information!
